युधिष्ठिर उवाचyudhiṣṭhira uvācaYudhishthira said
वल्गु चित्रपदम् श्लक्ष्णम् याज्ञसेनि त्वया वचः उक्तम् तत् श्रुतम् अस्माभिः नास्तिक्यम् तु प्रभाषसेvalgu citrapadam ślakṣṇam yājñaseni tvayā vacaḥ uktam tat śrutam asmābhiḥ nāstikyam tu prabhāṣaseyou have spoken a beautiful, ornate, and smooth speech, Yajnaseni; we have heard it, but you speak unbelief
न अहम् धर्मफलान्वेषी राजपुत्रि चरामि उत ददामि देयम् इति एव यजे यष्टव्यम् इति उतna aham dharmaphalānveṣī rājaputri carāmi uta dadāmi deyam iti eva yaje yaṣṭavyam iti utaI do not act, daughter of a king, seeking the fruit of dharma; I give because one ought to give, and I sacrifice because one ought to sacrifice
अस्तु वा अत्र फलम् मा वा कर्तव्यम् पुरुषेण यत् गृहान् आवसता कृष्णे यथाशक्ति करोमि तत्astu vā atra phalam mā vā kartavyam puruṣeṇa yat gṛhān āvasatā kṛṣṇe yathāśakti karomi tatlet there be a fruit here or not, whatever a householder ought to do, I do according to my strength, O Krishna
धर्मम् चरामि सुश्रोणि न धर्मफलकारणात् आगमान् अनतिक्रम्य सताम् वृत्तम् अवेक्ष्य चdharmam carāmi suśroṇi na dharmaphalakāraṇāt āgamān anatikramya satām vṛttam avekṣya caI follow dharma, O fair-hipped one, not for the sake of dharma's fruit, without transgressing the traditions and looking to the conduct of the good
धर्मे एव मनः कृष्णे स्वभावात् च एव मे धृतम्dharme eva manaḥ kṛṣṇe svabhāvāt ca eva me dhṛtammy mind, O Krishna, by its very nature is fixed only on dharma
न धर्मफलम् आप्नोति यः धर्मम् दोग्धुम् इच्छति यः च एनम् शङ्कते कृत्वा नास्तिक्यात् पापचेतनःna dharmaphalam āpnoti yaḥ dharmam dogdhum icchati yaḥ ca enam śaṅkate kṛtvā nāstikyāt pāpacetanaḥhe who wishes to milk dharma does not obtain the fruit of dharma, nor does he who, having performed it, doubts it out of unbelief, with a sinful mind
अतिवादात् मदात् च एव मा धर्मम् अतिशङ्किथाः धर्मातिशङ्की पुरुषः तिर्यग्गतिपरायणःativādāt madāt ca eva mā dharmam atiśaṅkithāḥ dharmātiśaṅkī puruṣaḥ tiryaggatiparāyaṇaḥout of excessive speech and pride, do not doubt dharma; a man who excessively doubts dharma goes to a lowly birth
