एवम् उक्तास् त्व् अगच्छंस् ते ब्राह्मणाः सर्वतोदिशम् ॥
नलं मृगयितुं राजंस् तथा व्यसनिनं तदा ॥
ते पुराणि सराष्ट्राणि ग्रामान् घोषांस् तथाश्रमान् ॥
अन्वेषन्तो नलं राजन् नाधिजग्मुर् द्विजातयः ॥
तच् च वाक्यं तथा सर्वे तत्र तत्र विशां पते ॥
श्रावयां चक्रिरे विप्रा दमयन्त्या यथेरितम् ॥

अनुवाद

Thus instructed, the brāhmaṇas went forth in every direction to seek Nala in his misfortune, O king. They searched through cities and their realms, villages, herdsmen's settlements, and hermitages, seeking Nala, but the twice-born found him not, O king. Yet everywhere, O lord of men, all of them proclaimed those very words, just as Damayantī had spoken them.

भाष्य

The search begins with speech. While Nala's body remains hidden, Damayantī's word goes ahead of it, seeking in the world an echo of his heart.
