Seeing her husband in his own true form, Bhima's blameless daughter cried out loudly and embraced Punyashloka. King Nala, radiant as before, embraced Bhaimi and duly greeted his own children. Fair-faced Damayanti laid her face upon his chest and, wrapped in the sorrow she had lived through, sighed deeply, her eyes wide. Smeared with dirt as she was, her smile bright and pure, she stood long in the embrace of that tiger among men, bathed in tears. Then Damayanti's mother joyfully told Bhima everything that had happened with Damayanti and Nala. King Bhima then said that in the morning, after his purification, he would see Nala together with Damayanti, both well rested. That night the couple spent together, recounting to each other all they had wandered through and endured in the forest, rejoicing. In the fourth year, reunited with his wife, Nala, his every desire fulfilled, found the highest joy. Damayanti too, having regained her husband, was filled anew with life, like half-grown crops receiving water. Free from weariness, her fever stilled, her joy grown full, Bhaimi shone, her desire fulfilled, like the night when the cool-rayed moon has risen.

Their reunion does not erase the past: they tell each other everything they have endured. In this way suffering becomes part of the truth restored between them, rather than a secret kept from each other.
