अनुवाद

Lomasha said: "Then the king, supreme knower of dharma, having cut out his own flesh, O son of Kunti, began to weigh it together with the dove, O mighty one. But when the dove was held on the scale, it outweighed the flesh. Then King Ushinara cut out flesh again and gave it. And when no flesh was found equal to the dove on the scale, he himself, his flesh already cut away, mounted the scale. The hawk said: 'I am Indra, knower of dharma, and this dove is Havyavaha, Agni. We came to your sacrificial ground wishing to test you in dharma. The flesh you cut from your limbs, lord of the people, will become your radiant fame, surpassing the worlds. As long as people in this world speak of you, king, so long will your fame and your worlds stand eternal.' Lomasha said: 'Son of Pandu, behold with me the abode of that great-souled king: it is holy and frees one from sin. Here, O king, the gods and the eternal sages are constantly seen by righteous, great-souled brahmins.'"
