जनमेजय उवाच
किं तद् गुह्यं न चाख्यातं कर्णायेहोष्णरश्मिना ॥
कीदृशे कुण्डले ते च कवचं चैव कीदृशम् ॥
कुतश् च कवचं तस्य कुण्डले चैव सत्तम ॥
एतद् इच्छाम्य् अहं श्रोतुं तन् मे ब्रूहि तपोधन ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
अयं राजन् ब्रवीम्य् एतद् यत् तद् गुह्यं विभावसोः ॥
यादृशे कुण्डले चैव कवचं चैव यादृशम् ॥
janamejaya uvāca
kiṃ tad guhyaṃ na cākhyātaṃ karṇāyehoṣṇaraśminā ||
kīdṛśe kuṇḍale te ca kavacaṃ caiva kīdṛśam ||
kutaś ca kavacaṃ tasya kuṇḍale caiva sattama ||
etad icchāmy ahaṃ śrotuṃ tan me brūhi tapodhana ||
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
ayaṃ rājan bravīmy etad yat tad guhyaṃ vibhāvasoḥ ||
yādṛśe kuṇḍale caiva kavacaṃ caiva yādṛśam ||
Janamejaya asked: "What is the secret that Surya did not reveal to Karna? What were those earrings and armor like? Where did he get the armor and earrings from? I wish to hear this — tell me." Vaishampayana replied: "I will tell you, O king, the secret of Vibhavasu, and also what the earrings and armor were like."
