Vaishampayana said: 'While the Parthas lived in the city of Matsya, while the great chariot-warriors remained hidden, ten months passed. Yajnaseni, worthy to be served by others, herself served Sudeshna and lived in great suffering, Janamejaya. As Panchali went about thus in Sudeshna's house, Virata's commander-in-chief saw her -- lotus-faced. Seeing her, radiant as one born of a god and moving like a goddess, Kichaka, pierced by the arrows of desire, was overcome with longing for her.'

Ten months of patient endurance had almost passed, and it is exactly then that a new danger arrives. A trial often grows sharper at the very edge of its term.
