Draupadi said: 'Here is yet another great sorrow of mine, which I will tell you, O Bharata. Do not blame me for it — I say this out of grief. When you fight in the pen with tigers, buffaloes, and lions before the eyes of Kaikeyi, weakness overtakes me. Rising from watching, Kaikeyi, seeing me looking as if struck by faintness, though flawless in body, says to those women: "I think this sweetly-smiling one, out of the affection born of living together, pities the cook when he fights those heroes of great strength. Sairandhri is lovely in form, and Ballava is very handsome; the hearts of women are hard to fathom, and to my mind the two of them are well-suited. Sairandhri, out of dear companionship, always feels compassion, and in this royal house the two of them have dwelt an equal span of time." Speaking such words, she wounded me again and again; and seeing me angry, she suspected me of being with you. While she spoke thus, a great sorrow entered me. Sunk in grief for Yudhishthira, I have no strength left to live.'

Even Draupadi's compassion for Bhima is turned into suspicion. In Virata's house she must guard not only her body, but the purity of her name.
