भ्राता भ्रातरम् अन्वेतु पिता पुत्रेण युज्यताम् ॥
स्मयमानाः समायान्तु पाञ्चालाः कुरुभिः सह ॥
अक्षतान् कुरुपाञ्चालान् पश्येम इति कामये ॥
सर्वे सुमनसस् तात शाम्याम भरतर्षभ ॥
अलम् एव शमायास्मि तथा युद्धाय संजय ॥
धर्मार्थयोर् अलं चाहं मृदवे दारुणाय च ॥

bhrātā bhrātaram anvetu pitā putreṇa yujyatām ||
smayamānāḥ samāyāntu pāñcālāḥ kurubhiḥ saha ||
akṣatān kurupāñcālān paśyema iti kāmaye ||
sarve sumanasas tāta śāmyāma bharatarṣabha ||
alam eva śamāyāsmi tathā yuddhāya saṃjaya ||
dharmārthayor alaṃ cāhaṃ mṛdave dāruṇāya ca ||

तथाtathāthus; likewise
युद्धायyuddhāyafor war; for battle
संजयsaṃjayaO Sanjaya; Sanjaya, the royal envoy
धर्मार्थयोर्dharmārthayorfor dharma and gain; in duty and purpose
अलंalaṃsufficient; enough
चाहंcāhaṃand I; I too
मृदवेmṛdavefor gentleness; for the mild
दारुणायdāruṇāyafor severity; for the harsh

अनुवाद

'Tell him also: "Let brother follow brother, let father be joined with son. Let the Panchalas mingle with the Kauravas in joyful laughter. That I may see the Kurus and Panchalas whole and unharmed — this is what I desire. O bull of the Bharata race, with glad hearts let us make peace." O Sanjaya, I am equally capable of war and of peace. I am ready to gain wealth just as I am to earn merit. I am fit alike for severity and for gentleness.'
