अनुवाद

He whose anger and favor bring about real consequences, who personally oversees what must be done, and who keeps his treasury under his own control, will bring the whole earth under his sway. A king should be content with the name he has won and with the parasol held over his head. He should divide the wealth of the kingdom among those who serve him; he should not take everything for himself alone. A brahmin knows a brahmin, a husband knows his wife, a king knows his minister, and kings know kings. An enemy deserving death, once he has been subdued, should never be released. If one is weak, one should attend upon a stronger enemy even though that enemy deserves death; but one should slay that enemy as soon as one has gained sufficient strength, for if he is not slain, danger will soon arise from him. One should carefully restrain one's anger toward gods, kings, brahmins, the old, the young, and the helpless. The wise should avoid fruitless quarrels, in which only fools become entangled.
