तत्र किं मन्यसे कृष्ण प्राप्तकालम् अनन्तरम् ॥
कथम् अर्थाच् च धर्माच् च न हीयेमहि माधव ॥
ईदृशे ह्य् अर्थकृच्छ्रे ऽस्मिन् कम् अन्यं मधुसूदन ॥
उपसंप्रष्टुम् अर्हामि त्वाम् ऋते पुरुषोत्तम ॥
प्रियश् च प्रियकामश् च गतिज्ञः सर्वकर्मणाम् ॥
को हि कृष्णास्ति नस् त्वादृक् सर्वनिश्चयवित् सुहृत् ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
एवम् उक्तः प्रत्युवाच धर्मराजं जनार्दनः ॥
उभयोर् एव वाम् अर्थे यास्यामि कुरुसंसदम् ॥
शमं तत्र लभेयं चेद् युष्मदर्थम् अहापयन् ॥
पुण्यं मे सुमहद् राजंश् चरितं स्यान् महाफलम् ॥

īdṛśe hy arthakṛcchre 'smin kam anyaṃ madhusūdana ||

ko hi kṛṣṇāsti nas tvādṛk sarvaniścayavit suhṛt ||
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
evam uktaḥ pratyuvāca dharmarājaṃ janārdanaḥ ||
ubhayor eva vām arthe yāsyāmi kurusaṃsadam ||
śamaṃ tatra labheyaṃ ced yuṣmadartham ahāpayan ||
puṇyaṃ me sumahad rājaṃś caritaṃ syān mahāphalam ||
He makes the unreal seem real and thereby deludes all beings. Possessed of such qualities, ever devoted to righteousness and endowed with divinity, the slayer of Madhu, this mighty-armed one, incapable of decay, will come here to prevent the slaughter of the Kurus.
