देवनागरी

इतो दुःखतरं किं नु यद् अहं हीनबान्धवा ॥
परपिण्डम् उदीक्षामि त्वां सूत्वामित्रनन्दन ॥
युध्यस्व राजधर्मेण मा निमज्जीः पितामहान् ॥
मा गमः क्षीणपुण्यस् त्वं सानुजः पापिकां गतिम् ॥

ito duḥkhataraṃ kiṃ nu yad ahaṃ hīnabāndhavā ||
parapiṇḍam udīkṣāmi tvāṃ sūtvāmitranandana ||
yudhyasva rājadharmeṇa mā nimajjīḥ pitāmahān ||
mā gamaḥ kṣīṇapuṇyas tvaṃ sānujaḥ pāpikāṃ gatim ||

अनुवाद

"What could be more sorrowful for me than this — that I, deprived of kin, wait for a morsel from another's hand, though I bore you, O joy of your friends? Fight in keeping with the dharma of kings; do not drown your ancestors. Do not go, your merit exhausted, together with your younger brothers, to a sinful fate."
