अनुवाद

"'When I was told this, sorrowful and greatly distressed, I joined my palms and declared to them, my son, my vow made out of reverence for my father: that for the sake of the family I must remain celibate and not become king, again and again. Then, with joined palms, I again and again entreated my mother: "No, mother. Born of Shantanu and upholder of the line of Kuru, I will not make my vow false. Especially for your sake, do not place me under this burden. I am your messenger and your servant, O mother who loves her son." Thus, O king, having appeased my mother and the people, I then asked the great sage Vyasa on behalf of my brother's wives. Together with my mother, O great king, having appeased that rishi, I asked him for the favor of offspring, and he granted it: he then begot three sons, O best of the Bharatas.'"
