अनेकशतसाहस्रम् अनीकम् अनुकर्षतः ॥
महान् दुर्योधनस्यासीन् नागो मणिमयो ध्वजः ॥
तस्य पौरवकालिङ्गौ काम्बोजश् च सुदक्षिणः ॥
क्षेमधन्वा सुमित्रश् च तस्थुः प्रमुखतो रथाः ॥
स्यन्दनेन महार्हेण केतुना वृषभेण च ॥
प्रकर्षन्न् इव सेनाग्रं मागधश् च नृपो ययौ ॥
तद् अङ्गपतिना गुप्तं कृपेण च महात्मना ॥
शारदाभ्रचयप्रख्यं प्राच्यानाम् अभवद् बलम् ॥
अनीकप्रमुखे तिष्ठन् वराहेण महायशाः ॥
शुशुभे केतुमुख्येन राजतेन जयद्रथः ॥
शतं रथसहस्राणां तस्यासन् वशवर्तिनः ॥
अष्टौ नागसहस्राणि सादिनाम् अयुतानि षट् ॥
तत् सिन्धुपतिना राजन् पालितं ध्वजिनीमुखम् ॥
अनन्तरथनागाश्वम् अशोभत महद् बलम् ॥

aṣṭau nāgasahasrāṇi sādinām ayutāni ṣaṭ ||
tat sindhupatinā rājan pālitaṃ dhvajinīmukham ||
anantarathanāgāśvam aśobhata mahad balam ||
Duryodhana had a great banner bearing an elephant made of jewels, as though it were dragging behind it a troop of many hundred thousand. Before him stood the leading chariots of Paurava, Kalinga, Sudakshina of Kamboja, Kshemadhanvan, and Sumitra. The king of Magadha advanced on a precious chariot with a banner of a bull, as though leading the vanguard of the army. The eastern army, resembling a mass of autumn clouds, was guarded by the lord of Anga and by the great-souled Kripa. Jayadratha, of great renown, stood at the head of the formation and shone with his foremost silver banner bearing a boar. A hundred thousand chariots, eight thousand elephants, and sixty thousand horsemen were subject to him. This vanguard of the army, guarded by the lord of Sindhu, blazed like a mighty force with countless chariots, elephants, and horses.
