श्वेतोष्णीषः पाण्डुरेण ध्वजेन; श्वेतैर् अश्वैः श्वेतशैलप्रकाशः ॥
तस्य सैन्यं धार्तराष्ट्राश् च सर्वे; बाह्लीकानाम् एकदेशः शलश् च ॥
ये चाम्बष्ठाः क्षत्रिया ये च सिन्धौ; तथा सौवीराः पञ्चनदाश् च शूराः ॥

Duryodhana sat in the midst of the Kurus upon a noble and powerful elephant the color of a lotus, girded in gold, its temples flowing; panegyrists and magadhas extolled him. Above him shone a white parasol, bright as the moon, and upon his head gleamed a golden garland. On every side Shakuni, king of Gandhara, guarded him, together with the mountain warriors and the Gandharas. At the front of the whole army stood the elder Bhishma: with a white parasol, a white bow, and a conch, in a white turban, with a pale banner and white horses, shining like a white mountain. With him stood his army — all the sons of Dhritarashtra, a portion of the Bahlikas, Shala, the kshatriyas of Ambashtha, the warriors of Sindhu, the Sauviras, and the heroes of Panchanada.
