'When the fully restrained mind abides only in the atman, and the person is free from craving for all desires, then he is called united with yoga. As a lamp standing in a windless place does not flicker — such is the remembered simile for the yogi whose mind is restrained and who practices the yoga of the atman. When the mind, restrained by devotion to yoga, comes to rest; and when, beholding the self by the self, he is satisfied in the self; when he knows that supreme happiness which is graspable by the buddhi and beyond the senses, and, having become established in it, does not deviate from the truth; when, having obtained it, he considers no other gain greater than it, and, abiding in it, is not shaken even by grievous suffering — that state should be known as yoga, disjunction from union with suffering. This yoga must be practiced with resolve, with an undespairing mind.'

Krishna describes an inner steadiness in which the mind ceases to seek support in outward things. Yoga is called disjunction from suffering not because the world disappears, but because consciousness is no longer bound to its dualities.
