अवजानन्ति मां मूढा मानुषीं तनुम् आश्रितम् ॥
परं भावम् अजानन्तो मम भूतमहेश्वरम् ॥
मोघाशा मोघकर्माणो मोघज्ञाना विचेतसः ॥
राक्षसीम् आसुरीं चैव प्रकृतिं मोहिनीं श्रिताः ॥
महात्मानस् तु मां पार्थ दैवीं प्रकृतिम् आश्रिताः ॥
भजन्त्य् अनन्यमनसो ज्ञात्वा भूतादिम् अव्ययम् ॥
सततं कीर्तयन्तो मां यतन्तश् च दृढव्रताः ॥
नमस्यन्तश् च मां भक्त्या नित्ययुक्ता उपासते ॥
ज्ञानयज्ञेन चाप्य् अन्ये यजन्तो माम् उपासते ॥
एकत्वेन पृथक्त्वेन बहुधा विश्वतोमुखम् ॥

avajānanti māṃ mūḍhā mānuṣīṃ tanum āśritam ||
paraṃ bhāvam ajānanto mama bhūtamaheśvaram ||
moghāśā moghakarmāṇo moghajñānā vicetasaḥ ||
rākṣasīm āsurīṃ caiva prakṛtiṃ mohinīṃ śritāḥ ||
mahātmānas tu māṃ pārtha daivīṃ prakṛtim āśritāḥ ||
bhajanty ananyamanaso jñātvā bhūtādim avyayam ||
satataṃ kīrtayanto māṃ yatantaś ca dṛḍhavratāḥ ||
namasyantaś ca māṃ bhaktyā nityayuktā upāsate ||
jñānayajñena cāpy anye yajanto mām upāsate ||
ekatvena pṛthaktvena bahudhā viśvatomukham ||

शब्दशः अर्थ

अवजानन्ति मां मूढाavajānanti māṃ mūḍhāfools disregard Me; the unwise despise Me
मानुषीं तनुम् आश्रितम्mānuṣīṃ tanum āśritamhaving assumed a human body; when I have taken a human form
परं भावम् अजानन्तोparaṃ bhāvam ajānantonot knowing My higher nature; not understanding My supreme being
मम भूतमहेश्वरम्mama bhūtamaheśvaramof Mine, the great Lord of beings; of Me as the supreme Lord of the living
मोघाशा मोघकर्माणोmoghāśā moghakarmāṇowith vain hopes, vain deeds; futile in hopes and in actions
मोघज्ञाना विचेतसःmoghajñānā vicetasaḥwith vain knowledge, senseless; with empty knowledge and confused mind
राक्षसीम् आसुरीं चैवrākṣasīm āsurīṃ caivaindeed the rakshasa and asura; the demonic and asuric
प्रकृतिं मोहिनीं श्रिताःprakṛtiṃ mohinīṃ śritāḥhaving taken up a deluding nature; having resorted to a bewildering nature
महात्मानस् तु मां पार्थmahātmānas tu māṃ pārthabut the great souls, Me, O son of Pritha; the mahatmas, Me, O son of Pritha
दैवीं प्रकृतिम् आश्रिताःdaivīṃ prakṛtim āśritāḥhaving taken up the divine nature; having found refuge in the divine nature
भजन्त्य् अनन्यमनसोbhajanty ananyamanasoworship with undivided mind; revere without distraction of mind
ज्ञात्वा भूतादिम् अव्ययम्jñātvā bhūtādim avyayamknowing the imperishable origin of beings; having understood Me as the eternal source of the living
सततं कीर्तयन्तो मांsatataṃ kīrtayanto māṃever glorifying Me; always singing My praise
यतन्तश् च दृढव्रताःyatantaś ca dṛḍhavratāḥand striving with firm vows; endeavoring with resolute constancy
नमस्यन्तश् च मां भक्त्याnamasyantaś ca māṃ bhaktyāand bowing to Me with bhakti; reverently prostrating before Me
नित्ययुक्ता उपासतेnityayuktā upāsateever united, they worship; constantly joined, they serve
ज्ञानयज्ञेन चाप्य् अन्येjñānayajñena cāpy anyeand others by the sacrifice of knowledge; while others through the sacrifice of knowledge
यजन्तो माम् उपासतेyajanto mām upāsateoffering sacrifice, they worship Me; revering, they serve Me
एकत्वेन पृथक्त्वेनekatvena pṛthaktvenaas one, as separate; in unity and in distinction
बहुधा विश्वतोमुखम्bahudhā viśvatomukhamin manifold ways, as facing all; in many ways, as turned toward the whole world
अनुवाद

'Fools disregard Me when I assume a human form, not knowing My higher nature as the great Lord of all beings. Their hopes are vain, their deeds are vain, their knowledge is vain; with bewildered minds they have taken refuge in a deluding, demonic, and asuric nature. But the great souls who have taken refuge in the divine nature, O son of Pritha, worship Me with undivided mind, knowing Me as the imperishable origin of beings. Ever glorifying Me, striving with firm vows, bowing to Me with devotion, ever united with Me, they worship. Others worship Me through the sacrifice of knowledge — as the One, as distinct from all, and as manifold, facing the whole world.'
