When the rakshasa, forced to turn away, was being struck by his foe in battle, this tormentor of enemies conjured a great, dark illusion. Then all beings on earth were swallowed in darkness: in the battle they could see neither Abhimanyu, nor their own men, nor the enemy. Seeing this vast gloom of terrible aspect, Abhimanyu, the joy of the Kurus, invoked the exceedingly fierce solar weapon. At this the whole world grew bright, lord of the earth, and he destroyed the illusion of the wicked rakshasa. Enraged and mighty, the best of men covered the lord of rakshasas with curved arrows. And the many other illusions cast by that rakshasa were repelled by the immeasurable son of Phalguna, knower of all celestial weapons. When the rakshasa's illusion had been destroyed and he himself was being struck by arrows, he abandoned his chariot right there and fled in great terror. After his swift victory over this deceitful rakshasa warrior, the son of Arjuna crushed your army in battle, like a maddened wild elephant trampling a lotus pond full of lotuses."

Abhimanyu defeats Alambusa not through brute force of a single arrow, but through the power to dispel darkness. The image of the solar weapon matters: against illusion that hides discernment stands light, which restores sight and order.
