Your son, seeing the joining of Bhima and Arjuna, approached the chariot of the son of Ganga in great fear. Then Kripa, Kritavarman, Saindhava Jayadratha, and the two men of Avanti, Vinda and Anuvinda, came to the battle. Then Bhima the great archer and Phalguna the maharatha brutally routed the terrible army of the Kauravas in the fight. Myriads and countless multitudes of peacock-feathered arrows swiftly poured down upon Dhananjaya's chariot in the battle. But Partha, having checked these maharathas with a net of arrows, sent them to death on every side of the field. Shalya, the maharatha, as if in sport, angrily struck Jishnu in the chest with curved bhalla arrows. Partha severed his bow, and with five arrows cut away his hand-guard, then with sharp arrows wounded him grievously in a vital spot. Then the lord of Madra took up another bow, fit for a fierce fight, and in fury struck Jishnu with three arrows, Vasudeva with five, and Bhimasena with nine, driving them into their arms and chests.'

Duryodhana again seeks refuge near Bhishma, because the joining of Bhima and Arjuna is breaking the formation. Even Shalya, for all his skill, only delays their onslaught for a moment.
