तस्याभिमन्युर् दशभिर् बाणैः सूतं हयान् ध्वजम् ॥
बाहू धनुः शिरश् चोर्व्यां स्मयमानो ऽभ्यपातयत् ॥
ततस् तस्मिन् हते वीरे सौभद्रेणाश्मकेश्वरे ॥
संचचाल बलं सर्वं पलायनपरायणम् ॥

अनुवाद
Him, the heir of Ashmaka, Abhimanyu, smiling, cast down to the ground with ten arrows — his charioteer, his horses, his banner, both his arms, his bow, and his head. Then, when this warrior, the lord of Ashmaka, was struck down by the son of Subhadra, the whole army shook and was ready to flee.

Abhimanyu strikes "smiling" — the calm of a master for whom even a mortal blow bears no strain. With ten arrows he methodically dismantles his enemy piece by piece — charioteer, horses, arms, head — stripping him of everything at once. And the death of a single warrior sends a whole army into terror. It is telling that the boy's smile in the thick of mortal combat is a sign not of cruelty but of that serenity granted only by complete mastery of oneself and one's art. The verse teaches that the summit of skill is calm and even radiant, undistorted by rage; that a single slain hero can shake a multitude, for fear passes from the fallen to the living; and that in Abhimanyu's smile, striking without strain, there appears the highest composure of spirit — one that loses neither clarity nor lightness even at the threshold of its own death.
