मतिविज्ञानसम्पत्तिशुद्धये धारयेत्सुधीः । विनायकाधिदैवं च प्रवदन्ति मनीषिणः

Here is a detail worth the whole list: pravadanti manīṣiṇaḥ, "the thoughtful call it [so]." A line above it was said that the six-faced seed belongs to Kārtikeya. Here it is added that other knowers attribute it to Vināyaka, that is, to Gaṇeśa.
That is, the book itself admits the disagreement and does not resolve it. This admission deserves grateful notice, for it is rare. Books of this kind usually speak with one voice and do not allow the reader to doubt; but here it is said outright: some say this, others say that.
The conclusion for the reader is simple, and worth drawing. If the book itself is not certain which god the six-faced seed belongs to, the reader need not be more certain than it; and everything in such lists that sounds unassailable apparently stands on the same shifting ground, only without the qualification. The Vaiṣṇava side generalizes this position into a rule useful far beyond seeds. Where tradition diverges, śāstra, scripture, decides; where scripture too is silent, it is more honest to say "unknown" than to choose the most beautiful.
The word manīṣin, "thoughtful, wise," from manas and the root īś, deserves note in itself as well. The disagreement is attributed not to the ignorant but to the thoughtful; that is, the book does not disparage those who think otherwise, but recognizes them as its equals in understanding.
