译文

Suta said: "Having heard that word of his father, the terribly swift wanderer of the sky seized the elephant with one claw and the tortoise with the other, and soared high into the sky. Reaching the tirtha of Alamba, he drew near the divine trees. They trembled in fear, buffeted by the wind of his wings, [thinking]: 'May he not break us!' — those golden-branched divine trees. Seeing those trembling trees, the trees bearing wish-fulfilling fruits, Garuda turned to others — of matchless beauty, with golden and silver fruits, with branches of vaidurya (beryl), great gleaming trees encircled by the waters of the ocean. Then that rohina tree, greatly grown, immense, said to the king of birds, who was swooping down upon it with the speed of thought: 'I have a great branch, a hundred yojanas long; alight on this branch and devour this elephant and tortoise.' And then the best of birds, his body like a mountain, swooping swiftly upon that tree, which was the refuge of thousands of birds, shaking it, broke off that branch, thickly covered with leaves."
