Here the listener's question carries the story forward. It is significant that Janamejaya is not satisfied with a single tale but longs for its continuation: the thirst to hear the sacred narrative is unquenchable in a pious heart. Here is the virtue of the attentive listener, whose questioning draws forth new revelations. Thus the scripture shows that tradition unfolds in measure with the desire to listen; and from this question will be born the story of Draupadi's birth.
