"Being six with their mother, having come together with that guru, the bulls among the Bharatas considered themselves as though they had a protector; for he, knowing the truth of the meaning of the Veda, noble in mind, was their guru. By that knower of dharma, all-knowing, the Parthas were placed under his priesthood."

Here the finding of a guru gives a sense of being protected. It is telling that the exiles, till then defenseless, "considered themselves as having a protector" only once they had found a spiritual guide: true support lies not in weapons but in a teacher. Here it is shown that with the acceptance of a guru the soul finds shelter: one guided by a saint is neither alone nor unprotected. Thus scripture shows that spiritual guidance is true protection; and the Pandavas, till then wanderers, feel themselves shielded under the wing of Dhaumya.
