译文
Bahlika, Dhritarashtra, Somadatta and Jayadratha, brought there by Nakula, dwelt as hosts. Kshattri [Vidura], knower of all dharmas, was the manager of expenses; Duryodhana, however, received all the offerings.

Here the knot of what is to come is tied: Duryodhana is entrusted to "receive all the offerings" — through his hands flows all the wealth streaming to the Pandavas. It is telling that his fateful envy will be born not of deprivation but of contact with another's abundance: the more treasures he handles, the more unbearable to him becomes the prosperity of his cousins. The verse shows how the most honorable service becomes poison for an impure heart. Wealth in the hands of the envious does not satisfy but inflames; and what for the humble would be the joy of service becomes, for the proud, a source of ruin.
