शिष्टैः आचरितम् धर्मम् कृष्णे मा स्म अतिशङ्किथाः पुराणम् ऋषिभिः प्रोक्तम् सर्वज्ञैः सर्वदर्शिभिःśiṣṭaiḥ ācaritam dharmam kṛṣṇe mā sma atiśaṅkithāḥ purāṇam ṛṣibhiḥ proktam sarvajñaiḥ sarvadarśibhiḥdo not doubt, Krishna, the dharma practiced by the virtuous, ancient, proclaimed by sages who are all-knowing and all-seeing
धर्मः एव प्लवः न अन्यः स्वर्गम् द्रौपदि गच्छताम् सा एव नौः सागरस्य इव वणिजः पारम् ऋच्छतःdharmaḥ eva plavaḥ na anyaḥ svargam draupadi gacchatām sā eva nauḥ sāgarasya iva vaṇijaḥ pāram ṛcchataḥdharma alone is the raft, none other, for those going to heaven, Draupadi; it is like a boat for a merchant reaching the far shore of the ocean
अफालः यदि धर्मः स्यात् चरितः धर्मचारिभिः अप्रतिष्ठे तमसि एतत् जगत् मज्जेत् अनिन्दितेaphālaḥ yadi dharmaḥ syāt caritaḥ dharmacāribhiḥ apratiṣṭhe tamasi etat jagat majjet aninditeif dharma, practiced by those who follow dharma, were fruitless, this world, O blameless one, would sink into groundless darkness
निर्वाणम् न अधिगच्छेयुः जीवेयुः पशुजीविकाम् विघातेन एव युज्येयुः न च अर्थम् किं चित् आप्नुयुःnirvāṇam na adhigaccheyuḥ jīveyuḥ paśujīvikām vighātena eva yujyeyuḥ na ca artham kiṃ cit āpnuyuḥpeople would not attain liberation, they would live an animal existence, they would be bound only by obstruction and would attain no purpose whatsoever
तपः च ब्रह्मचर्यम् च यज्ञः स्वाध्यायः एव च दानम् आर्जवम् एतानि यदि स्युः अफलानि वैtapaḥ ca brahmacaryam ca yajñaḥ svādhyāyaḥ eva ca dānam ārjavam etāni yadi syuḥ aphalāni vaiif austerity, celibate discipline, sacrifice, study of the Veda, giving, and honesty were fruitless
न आचरिस्यन् परे धर्मम् परे परतरे च ये विप्रलम्भः अयम् अत्यन्तम् यदि स्युः अफलाः क्रियाःna ācarisyan pare dharmam pare paratare ca ye vipralambhaḥ ayam atyantam yadi syuḥ aphalāḥ kriyāḥthen the higher beings, and those higher still, would not practice dharma; it would be an utter deception if actions were fruitless
ऋषयः च एव देवाः च गन्धर्वासुरराक्षसाः ईश्वराः कस्य हेतोः ते चरेयुः धर्मम् आदृताःṛṣayaḥ ca eva devāḥ ca gandharvāsurarākṣasāḥ īśvarāḥ kasya hetoḥ te careyuḥ dharmam ādṛtāḥwhy would the sages, gods, gandharvas, asuras, rakshasas, and lords reverently follow dharma
फलदं तु इह विज्ञाय धातारम् श्रेयसि ध्रुवे धर्मम् ते हि आचरन् कृष्णे तत् हि धर्मसनातनम्phaladaṃ tu iha vijñāya dhātāram śreyasi dhruve dharmam te hi ācaran kṛṣṇe tat hi dharmasanātanamknowing here that the Ordainer grants fruit in unshakable well-being, they practice dharma, O Krishna; that is the eternal dharma
स च अयम् सफलः धर्मः न धर्मः अफलः उच्यते दृश्यन्ते अपि हि विद्यानाम् फलानि तपसाम् तथाsa ca ayam saphalaḥ dharmaḥ na dharmaḥ aphalaḥ ucyate dṛśyante api hi vidyānām phalāni tapasām tathāthis dharma bears fruit; dharma is not called fruitless, for the fruits of learning and austerities are indeed seen
त्वयि एतत् वै विजानीहि जन्म कृष्णे यथा श्रुतम् वेत्थ च अपि यथा जातः धृष्टद्युम्नः प्रतापवान्tvayi etat vai vijānīhi janma kṛṣṇe yathā śrutam vettha ca api yathā jātaḥ dhṛṣṭadyumnaḥ pratāpavānknow this in yourself, Krishna, in your own birth, as it has been heard; and you know too how the mighty Dhrishtadyumna was born
एतावत् एव पर्याप्तम् उपमानम् शुचिस्मिते कर्मणाम् फलम् अस्ति इति धीरः अल्पेन अपि तुष्यतिetāvat eva paryāptam upamānam śucismite karmaṇām phalam asti iti dhīraḥ alpena api tuṣyatithis example alone, O pure-smiling one, is enough to show that the fruit of actions exists; the wise are satisfied even with little proof
