The earthly kings, having witnessed Damayanti's wedding, astonished and joyful, returned each to where he had come from. Having won this jewel among women, King Nala, the illustrious one, delighted in her company like the slayer of Bala and Vritra with Shachi. Filled with joy, radiant as the sun, the hero gladdened his subjects, protecting them according to dharma. The wise king performed the ashvamedha, like Yayati, son of Nahusha, and many other rites with ample gifts of dakshina. Then Nala, like an immortal, wandered again with Damayanti through beautiful forests and groves. Thus, performing sacrifices and taking his pleasure, the lord of the earth guarded the earth, rich in treasures.

Nala's happiness is not separate from his royal duty: love, sacrifice, and rule according to dharma form a single fullness of life before the trial to come.
