Brihadashva said: "When the night had passed, King Nala, adorned in the morning, came together with the daughter of Vidarbha to the lord of the earth. Nala, composed and attentive, bowed to his father-in-law, and after him the radiant Damayanti bowed to her father. Bhima received him with the greatest joy, as a son, honored him fittingly, and comforted him together with the devoted Damayanti. Nala, having received this honor according to custom, duly rendered his own service to him. Then a great joyful clamor of the people rose up in the city, for they had seen Nala returned. The city was adorned with garlands of banners and standards; the royal roads were sprinkled, swept, and strewn with flowers. At every doorway the townspeople arranged flower ornaments, and all the shrines of the gods were honored."

The personal reunion of Nala and Damayanti becomes a festival for the whole city. When dharma is restored within a household, the joy spreads to the whole community.
