'Now I shall tell, O lord of men, of the sacred sites and shrines of Surashtra — its hermitages, rivers, mountains and lakes. There the brahmins speak also of Chamasonmajana, and, on the shore of the ocean, of Prabhasa, the ford of the thirty gods, O Yudhishthira. There is Pindaraka, a pure place hallowed by ascetics, and the peak of Ujjayanta, mighty, swiftly bestowing success. Of it the foremost of the divine seers, Narada, once sang an ancient verse, which is still heard — hear it, O Yudhishthira: 'On the sacred mountain of Surashtra, frequented by deer and birds, he who scorches his limbs with austerity on Ujjayanta is exalted on the vault of heaven.' There is the sacred Dvaraka, where Madhusudana abides. He is himself the ancient God, for he is the eternal dharma. Those brahmins who know the Veda, and those who know the truth of the self, call the great-souled Krishna the eternal dharma. Among things pure, Govinda is called the supreme purity; among sacred things he is the most sacred, and among blessings, the blessing itself. The lotus-eyed one, God of gods, eternal, Hari of unfathomable being, Madhusudana, dwells there as well.'

Here the narrative lifts the pilgrimage straight to its heart: Krishna is named the eternal dharma itself. Every sacred site purifies, but Govinda is the source of purity itself.
