देवा ऊचुः
इतः प्रदानाद् वर्तन्ते प्रजाः सर्वाश् चतुर्विधाः ॥
ता भाविता भावयन्ति हव्यकव्यैर् दिवौकसः ॥
लोका ह्य् एवं वर्तयन्ति अन्योन्यं समुपाश्रिताः ॥
त्वत्प्रसादान् निरुद्विग्नास् त्वयैव परिरक्षिताः ॥
इदं च समनुप्राप्तं लोकानां भयम् उत्तमम् ॥
न च जानीम केनेमे रात्रौ वध्यन्ति ब्राह्मणाः ॥
क्षीणेषु च ब्राह्मणेषु पृथिवी क्षयम् एष्यति ॥
ततः पृथिव्यां क्षीणायां त्रिदिवं क्षयम् एष्यति ॥
त्वत्प्रसादान् महाबाहो लोकाः सर्वे जगत्पते ॥
विनाशं नाधिगच्छेयुस् त्वया वै परिरक्षिताः ॥
devā ūcuḥ
itaḥ pradānād vartante prajāḥ sarvāś caturvidhāḥ ||
tā bhāvitā bhāvayanti havyakavyair divaukasaḥ ||
lokā hy evaṃ vartayanti anyonyaṃ samupāśritāḥ ||
tvatprasādān nirudvignās tvayaiva parirakṣitāḥ ||
idaṃ ca samanuprāptaṃ lokānāṃ bhayam uttamam ||
na ca jānīma keneme rātrau vadhyanti brāhmaṇāḥ ||
kṣīṇeṣu ca brāhmaṇeṣu pṛthivī kṣayam eṣyati ||
tataḥ pṛthivyāṃ kṣīṇāyāṃ tridivaṃ kṣayam eṣyati ||
tvatprasādān mahābāho lokāḥ sarve jagatpate ||
vināśaṃ nādhigaccheyus tvayā vai parirakṣitāḥ ||
The gods said: "From offering here live all four kinds of beings; strengthened by this, they nourish the celestials with havya and kavya. Thus the worlds sustain one another, resting on mutual support; by your grace they know no anxiety and are protected by you. But now a great terror has come upon the worlds: we do not know by whom these brahmins are being killed at night. When the brahmins are exhausted, the earth will come to ruin; when the earth perishes, tridiva will perish too. By your grace, mighty-armed lord of the world, may all the worlds, protected by you, not come to destruction."
