ततः श्रुत्वा तु शर्यातिर् वयःस्थं च्यवनं कृतम् ॥
संहृष्टः सेनया सार्धम् उपायाद् भार्गवाश्रमम् ॥
च्यवनं च सुकन्यां च दृष्ट्वा देवसुताव् इव ॥
रेमे महीपः शर्यातिः कृत्स्नां प्राप्य महीम् इव ॥
ऋषिणा सत्कृतस् तेन सभार्यः पृथिवीपतिः ॥
उपोपविष्टः कल्याणीः कथाश् चक्रे महामनाः ॥
अथैनं भार्गवो राजन्न् उवाच परिसान्त्वयन् ॥
याजयिष्यामि राजंस् त्वां संभारान् उपकल्पय ॥
ततः परमसंहृष्टः शर्यातिः पृथिवीपतिः ॥
च्यवनस्य महाराज तद् वाक्यं प्रत्यपूजयत् ॥
प्रशस्ते ऽहनि यज्ञीये सर्वकामसमृद्धिमत् ॥
कारयाम् आस शर्यातिर् यज्ञायतनम् उत्तमम् ॥
तत्रैनं च्यवनो राजन् याजयाम् आस भार्गवः ॥
अद्भुतानि च तत्रासन् यानि तानि निबोध मे ॥
अगृह्णाच् च्यवनः सोमम् अश्विनोर् देवयोस् तदा ॥
तम् इन्द्रो वारयाम् आस गृह्यमाणं तयोर् ग्रहम् ॥

译文

Lomasha said: "Hearing that Chyavana had become young again, Sharyati rejoiced and came with his army to the ashram of Bhargava. Seeing Chyavana and Sukanya as if they were children of the gods, King Sharyati rejoiced as though he had won the whole earth. The sage received the king together with his wife; seated there, the great-souled king engaged in auspicious conversation. Then Bhargava, addressing him gently, said: 'O king, I shall perform a sacrifice for you; prepare the necessary requisites.' Then the lord of the earth, Sharyati, with the greatest joy, honored this word of Chyavana. On an auspicious sacrificial day, when everything desired had been prepared, Sharyati set up an excellent sacrificial ground. There, O king, Chyavana Bhargava performed the sacrifice for him. Now hear from me of the wonders that occurred there. Then Chyavana took the soma for the two Ashvin gods; but Indra restrained him as he was taking their share."

注释

The story moves from a family debt to the order of sacrifice. What was promised out of gratitude must now withstand resistance from heavenly power.
