अथ प्रयोक्ष्यमाणेन दिव्यान्य् अस्त्राणि तेन वै ॥
समाक्रान्ता मही पद्भ्यां समकम्पत सद्रुमा ॥
क्षुभिताः सरितश् चैव तथैव च महोदधिः ॥
शैलाश् चापि व्यशीर्यन्त न ववौ च समीरणः ॥
न बभासे सहस्रांशुर् न जज्वाल च पावकः ॥
न वेदाः प्रतिभान्ति स्म द्विजातीनां कथं चन ॥
अन्तर्भूमिगता ये च प्राणिनो जनमेजय ॥
पीड्यमानाः समुत्थाय पाण्डवं पर्यवारयन् ॥
वेपमानाः प्राञ्जलयस् ते सर्वे पिहिताननाः ॥
दह्यमानास् तदास्त्रैस् तैर् याचन्ति स्म धनंजयम् ॥
ततो ब्रह्मर्षयश् चैव सिद्धाश् चैव सुरर्षयः ॥
जङ्गमानि च भूतानि सर्वाण्य् एवावतस्थिरे ॥
राजर्षयश् च प्रवरास् तथैव च दिवौकसः ॥
यक्षराक्षसगन्धर्वास् तथैव च पतत्रिणः ॥
ततः पितामहश् चैव लोकपालाश् च सर्वशः ॥
भगवांश् च महादेवः सगणो ऽभ्याययौ तदा ॥
ततो वायुर् महाराज दिव्यैर् माल्यैः सुगन्धिभिः ॥
अभितः पाण्डवांश् चित्रैर् अवचक्रे समन्ततः ॥
जगुश् च गाथा विविधा गन्धर्वाः सुरचोदिताः ॥
ननृतुः संघशश् चैव राजन्न् अप्सरसां गणाः ॥

译文

'When he was about to apply the divine astras, the earth, pressed beneath his feet, trembled together with its trees. The rivers grew turbulent, as did the great ocean; the mountains began to crumble, and the wind ceased to blow. The thousand-rayed sun did not shine, fire did not burn, and the Vedas would not appear to the twice-born at all. The beings dwelling beneath the earth, tormented, rose up and surrounded the Pandava. Trembling, they stood with joined palms and covered faces, and, scorched by those weapons, they beseeched Dhananjaya. Then the brahmarshis rose, and the siddhas and the divine seers, and all moving beings as well. The foremost of the rajarshis, the dwellers of heaven, the yakshas, rakshasas, gandharvas, and birds also appeared. Then Pitamaha came, and all the guardians of the world, and the blessed Mahadeva with his hosts. The wind, from every side, showered the Pandavas with wondrous, fragrant, celestial garlands. At the gods' bidding the gandharvas sang various songs, and troops of apsaras danced.'

注释

The world shudders even before the astras are actually used. Thus it becomes clear: divine weapons belong not to private anger, but to the cosmic order.
