विभीषणर्क्षाधिपती पुरस्कृत्याथ लक्ष्मणः ॥
दक्षिणं नगरद्वारम् अवामृद्नाद् दुरासदम् ॥
करभारुणगात्राणां हरीणां युद्धशालिनाम् ॥
कोटीशतसहस्रेण लङ्काम् अभ्यपतत् तदा ॥
उत्पतद्भिः पतद्भिश् च निपतद्भिश् च वानरैः ॥
नादृश्यत तदा सूर्यो रजसा नाशितप्रभः ॥
शालिप्रसूनसदृशैः शिरीषकुसुमप्रभैः ॥
तरुणादित्यसदृशैः शरगौरैश् च वानरैः ॥
प्राकारं ददृशुस् ते तु समन्तात् कपिलीकृतम् ॥
राक्षसा विस्मिता राजन् सस्त्रीवृद्धाः समन्ततः ॥
बिभिदुस् ते मणिस्तम्भान् कर्णाट्टशिखराणि च ॥
भग्नोन्मथितवेगानि यन्त्राणि च विचिक्षिपुः ॥
परिगृह्य शतघ्नीश् च सचक्राः सहुडोपलाः ॥
चिक्षिपुर् भुजवेगेन लङ्कामध्ये महाबलाः ॥
प्राकारस्थाश् च ये के चिन् निशाचरगणास् तदा ॥
प्रदुद्रुवुस् ते शतशः कपिभिः समभिद्रुताः ॥

prākāraṃ dadṛśus te tu samantāt kapilīkṛtam ||
rākṣasā vismitā rājan sastrīvṛddhāḥ samantataḥ ||
bibhidus te maṇistambhān karṇāṭṭaśikharāṇi ca ||
bhagnonmathitavegāni yantrāṇi ca vicikṣipuḥ ||
parigṛhya śataghnīś ca sacakrāḥ sahuḍopalāḥ ||
cikṣipur bhujavegena laṅkāmadhye mahābalāḥ ||
prākārasthāś ca ye ke cin niśācaragaṇās tadā ||
pradudruvus te śataśaḥ kapibhiḥ samabhidrutāḥ ||
After this, Rama, with the combined onslaught of the wind-swift vanaras, breached the wall of Lanka. Lakshmana, placing Vibhishana and the lord of the bears in front, swept away the southern city gate. Hundreds of thousands and millions of battle-ready vanaras assaulted Lanka. Because of the rising dust the sun could not be seen. The multicolored vanaras covered the wall on every side, and the rakshasas, together with their women and elders, watched in astonishment. The vanaras smashed the jeweled pillars, towers, and engines, seized the shataghnis with their wheels and stones, and hurled them into the midst of Lanka. The rakshasas who had stood on the wall fled by the hundreds.
