द्रौपद्य् उवाच
अप्रार्थनीयाम् इह मां सूतपुत्राभिमन्यसे ॥
विहीनवर्णां सैरन्ध्रीं बीभत्सां केशकारिकाम् ॥
परदारास्मि भद्रं ते न युक्तं त्वयि सांप्रतम् ॥
दयिताः प्राणिनां दारा धर्मं समनुचिन्तय ॥
परदारे न ते बुद्धिर् जातु कार्या कथं चन ॥
विवर्जनं ह्य् अकार्याणाम् एतत् सत्पुरुषव्रतम् ॥
मिथ्याभिगृध्नो हि नरः पापात्मा मोहम् आस्थितः ॥
अयशः प्राप्नुयाद् घोरं सुमहत् प्राप्नुयाद् भयम् ॥
मा सूतपुत्र हृष्यस्व माद्य त्यक्ष्यसि जीवितम् ॥
दुर्लभाम् अभिमन्वानो मां वीरैर् अभिरक्षिताम् ॥
न चाप्य् अहं त्वया शक्या गन्धर्वाः पतयो मम ॥
ते त्वां निहन्युः कुपिताः साध्व् अलं मा व्यनीनशः ॥
अशक्यरूपैः पुरुषैर् अध्वानं गन्तुम् इच्छसि ॥
यथा निश्चेतनो बालः कूलस्थः कूलम् उत्तरम् ॥
तर्तुम् इच्छति मन्दात्मा तथा त्वं कर्तुम् इच्छसि ॥
अन्तर्महीं वा यदि वोर्ध्वम् उत्पतेः; समुद्रपारं यदि वा प्रधावसि ॥
तथापि तेषां न विमोक्षम् अर्हसि; प्रमाथिनो देवसुता हि मे वराः ॥
त्वं कालरात्रीम् इव कश् चिद् आतुरः; किं मां दृढं प्रार्थयसे ऽद्य कीचक ॥
किं मातुर् अङ्के शयितो यथा शिशुश्; चन्द्रं जिघृक्षुर् इव मन्यसे हि माम् ॥

paradārāsmi bhadraṃ te na yuktaṃ tvayi sāṃpratam ||
dayitāḥ prāṇināṃ dārā dharmaṃ samanucintaya ||
paradāre na te buddhir jātu kāryā kathaṃ cana ||
vivarjanaṃ hy akāryāṇām etat satpuruṣavratam ||
mithyābhigṛdhno hi naraḥ pāpātmā moham āsthitaḥ ||
ayaśaḥ prāpnuyād ghoraṃ sumahat prāpnuyād bhayam ||
mā sūtaputra hṛṣyasva mādya tyakṣyasi jīvitam ||
durlabhām abhimanvāno māṃ vīrair abhirakṣitām ||
na cāpy ahaṃ tvayā śakyā gandharvāḥ patayo mama ||
te tvāṃ nihanyuḥ kupitāḥ sādhv alaṃ mā vyanīnaśaḥ ||
aśakyarūpaiḥ puruṣair adhvānaṃ gantum icchasi ||
yathā niścetano bālaḥ kūlasthaḥ kūlam uttaram ||
tartum icchati mandātmā tathā tvaṃ kartum icchasi ||
antarmahīṃ vā yadi vordhvam utpateḥ; samudrapāraṃ yadi vā pradhāvasi ||
tathāpi teṣāṃ na vimokṣam arhasi; pramāthino devasutā hi me varāḥ ||
tvaṃ kālarātrīm iva kaś cid āturaḥ; kiṃ māṃ dṛḍhaṃ prārthayase 'dya kīcaka ||
kiṃ mātur aṅke śayito yathā śiśuś; candraṃ jighṛkṣur iva manyase hi mām ||
Draupadi said: 'Son of a suta, you desire here one who should not be desired: a lowly sairandhri, a repulsive hairdresser. I am another man's wife; good fortune to you. This is not fitting for you now. Wives are dear to living beings -- reflect on dharma. Let your mind never in any way turn toward another man's wife: refraining from what should not be done is the vow of good men. A man consumed by false desire, sinful of soul and lost in delusion, meets with terrible disgrace and very great fear. Do not rejoice, son of a suta: today you will lose your life for desiring me, unattainable and protected by heroes. You cannot possess me; my husbands are gandharvas. In their anger, they will kill you. Enough -- do not destroy yourself. You wish to walk a path closed to men; like a witless child standing on the riverbank who wishes to cross to the far shore, so, feeble-minded, do you wish to act. Whether you flee beneath the earth, or fly upward, or run across the sea, still you will not escape them: my chosen husbands are the swift sons of the gods. Kichaka, like a sick man craving the night of death, why do you so persistently desire me today? You think of me as a child lying in its mother's lap who wishes to seize the moon.'
