Then Bibhatsu laughed and set upon the Gandiva the divine weapon of Indra, blazing like the sun. The mighty Kaunteya, crowned with a diadem and garland, covered all the Kurus as the sun covers the earth with its rays. The Gandiva became like Indra's rainbow, like lightning in a cloud, like fire upon a mountain. As lightning flashes in the sky when the rain god pours down, so the falling torrent from the Gandiva covered all ten directions. All the charioteers there were seized with terror; seeking only peace, they could not find their own minds. All the warriors turned away from battle, their hearts struck down. Thus, O best of the Bharatas, all the armies were broken, and, despairing of their own lives, they fled in every direction.

The divine weapon here is not epic ornamentation but a sign of sanctioned power. When service to dharma joins with heavenly support, an unrighteous onslaught scatters from within.
