शल्य उवाच
एवम् उक्तः स भगवाञ् शच्या पुनर् अथाब्रवीत् ॥
विक्रमस्य न कालो ऽयं नहुषो बलवत्तरः ॥
विवर्धितश् च ऋषिभिर् हव्यैः कव्यैश् च भामिनि ॥
नीतिम् अत्र विधास्यामि देवि तां कर्तुम् अर्हसि ॥
गुह्यं चैतत् त्वया कार्यं नाख्यातव्यं शुभे क्व चित् ॥
गत्वा नहुषम् एकान्ते ब्रवीहि तनुमध्यमे ॥
ऋषियानेन दिव्येन माम् उपैहि जगत्पते ॥
एवं तव वशे प्रीता भविष्यामीति तं वद ॥
इत्य् उक्ता देवराजेन पत्नी सा कमलेक्षणा ॥
एवम् अस्त्व् इत्य् अथोक्त्वा तु जगाम नहुषं प्रति ॥

evam uktaḥ sa bhagavāñ śacyā punar athābravīt ||
vikramasya na kālo 'yaṃ nahuṣo balavattaraḥ ||
vivardhitaś ca ṛṣibhir havyaiḥ kavyaiś ca bhāmini ||
nītim atra vidhāsyāmi devi tāṃ kartum arhasi ||
guhyaṃ caitat tvayā kāryaṃ nākhyātavyaṃ śubhe kva cit ||
gatvā nahuṣam ekānte bravīhi tanumadhyame ||
ṛṣiyānena divyena mām upaihi jagatpate ||
evaṃ tava vaśe prītā bhaviṣyāmīti taṃ vada ||
ity uktā devarājena patnī sā kamalekṣaṇā ||
evam astv ity athoktvā tu jagāma nahuṣaṃ prati ||
Shalya said: "Thus addressed by Shachi, the blessed lord spoke to her again: 'This is not the time for valor. Nahusha is stronger than I am. O radiant woman, the rishis have strengthened him through offerings of havya and kavya to the gods and the Pitris. Now I shall resort to policy. You must carry this out, O goddess. O lady, you must do this in secret and reveal it to no one. O woman of the lovely waist, go to Nahusha alone and tell him: O lord of the world, you must come to me riding upon a wondrous vehicle borne by rishis. If you do so, I shall be pleased and shall place myself at your disposal. This is what you must tell him.' Thus addressed by the king of the gods, his lotus-eyed wife signified her assent and set out toward Nahusha."
