तस्य तद् वचनं श्रुत्वा प्रज्ञावृद्धो महाद्युतिः ॥
संपूज्यैनं यथाकालं भीष्मो वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
दिष्ट्या कुशलिनः सर्वे पाण्डवाः सह बान्धवैः ॥
दिष्ट्या सहायवन्तश् च दिष्ट्या धर्मे च ते रताः ॥
दिष्ट्या च संधिकामास् ते भ्रातरः कुरुनन्दनाः ॥
दिष्ट्या न युद्धमनसः सह दामोदरेण ते ॥
भवता सत्यम् उक्तं च सर्वम् एतन् न संशयः ॥
अतितीक्ष्णं तु ते वाक्यं ब्राह्मण्याद् इति मे मतिः ॥
असंशयं क्लेशितास् ते वने चेह च पाण्डवाः ॥
प्राप्ताश् च धर्मतः सर्वं पितुर् धनम् असंशयम् ॥

Vaishampayana said: 'Having heard his words, Bhishma -- elder in wisdom and possessed of great splendor -- honored him in due form, and then spoke words fitting the occasion. He said: "How fortunate that they are all well, together with Krishna! This is true. Yet your words are exceedingly sharp, and I believe the reason is that you are a brahmin. Without doubt, the sons of Pandu suffered greatly, both here and in the forest."'
