उपलब्धम् इदं द्वारम् अश्वानाम् इति चाण्डजः ॥
उक्त्वा गालवम् आपृच्छ्य जगाम भवनं स्वकम् ॥
गते पतगराजे तु गालवः सह कन्यया ॥
चिन्तयानः क्षमं दाने राज्ञां वै शुल्कतो ऽगमत् ॥
सो ऽगच्छन् मनसेक्ष्वाकुं हर्यश्वं राजसत्तमम् ॥
अयोध्यायां महावीर्यं चतुरङ्गबलान्वितम् ॥
कोशधान्यबलोपेतं प्रियपौरं द्विजप्रियम् ॥
प्रजाभिकामं शाम्यन्तं कुर्वाणं तप उत्तमम् ॥
तम् उपागम्य विप्रः स हर्यश्वं गालवो ऽब्रवीत् ॥
कन्येयं मम राजेन्द्र प्रसवैः कुलवर्धिनी ॥

uktvā gālavam āpṛcchya jagāma bhavanaṃ svakam ||
gate patagarāje tu gālavaḥ saha kanyayā ||
cintayānaḥ kṣamaṃ dāne rājñāṃ vai śulkato 'gamat ||
so 'gacchan manasekṣvākuṃ haryaśvaṃ rājasattamam ||
ayodhyāyāṃ mahāvīryaṃ caturaṅgabalānvitam ||
kośadhānyabalopetaṃ priyapauraṃ dvijapriyam ||
prajābhikāmaṃ śāmyantaṃ kurvāṇaṃ tapa uttamam ||
tam upāgamya vipraḥ sa haryaśvaṃ gālavo 'bravīt ||
kanyeyaṃ mama rājendra prasavaiḥ kulavardhinī ||
The egg-born one said to Gālava, 'A way to obtain the horses has been found,' then took leave of him and departed for his own dwelling. When the king of birds had gone, Gālava, together with the maiden, pondering what would be fitting in giving her to kings for a bride-price, went onward. As he went, he mentally settled on Haryaśva of the line of Ikṣvāku, the best of kings: that king dwelt in Ayodhyā, was of great might, possessed a fourfold army, treasury, grain, and strength, was beloved by his citizens, dear to brahmins, wished well for his subjects, was tranquil, and practiced the highest austerity. Having approached him, the brahmin Gālava said to Haryaśva, 'O king of kings, this maiden of mine will increase your lineage through her offspring.'

After Garuda's departure, Gālava must choose his own way forward. He seeks a king who is not merely wealthy but worthy: strong, beloved by his people, favorably disposed toward brahmins, and capable of austerity. Thus the fulfillment of the vow is again bound to the quality of the recipient, not merely to the number of horses.
