यत् तु दानपतिं शूरं क्षुधिताः पृथिवीचराः ॥
प्राप्य तृप्ताः प्रतिष्ठन्ते धर्मः को ऽभ्यधिकस् ततः ॥
दानेनान्यं बलेनान्यं तथा सूनृतयापरम् ॥
सर्वतः प्रतिगृह्णीयाद् राज्यं प्राप्येह धार्मिकः ॥
ब्राह्मणः प्रचरेद् भैक्षं क्षत्रियः परिपालयेत् ॥
वैश्यो धनार्जनं कुर्याच् छूद्रः परिचरेच् च तान् ॥
भैक्षं विप्रतिषिद्धं ते कृषिर् नैवोपपद्यते ॥
क्षत्रियो ऽसि क्षतात् त्राता बाहुवीर्योपजीविता ॥
पित्र्यम् अंशं महाबाहो निमग्नं पुनर् उद्धर ॥
साम्ना दानेन भेदेन दण्डेनाथ नयेन च ॥
yat tu dānapatiṃ śūraṃ kṣudhitāḥ pṛthivīcarāḥ ||
prāpya tṛptāḥ pratiṣṭhante dharmaḥ ko 'bhyadhikas tataḥ ||
dānenānyaṃ balenānyaṃ tathā sūnṛtayāparam ||

brāhmaṇaḥ pracared bhaikṣaṃ kṣatriyaḥ paripālayet ||
vaiśyo dhanārjanaṃ kuryāc chūdraḥ paricarec ca tān ||
bhaikṣaṃ vipratiṣiddhaṃ te kṛṣir naivopapadyate ||
kṣatriyo 'si kṣatāt trātā bāhuvīryopajīvitā ||
pitryam aṃśaṃ mahābāho nimagnaṃ punar uddhara ||
sāmnā dānena bhedena daṇḍenātha nayena ca ||
"When the hungry wanderers of the earth come to a heroic lord of gifts, are satisfied, and find their footing, what dharma is greater than this? Having obtained a kingdom in this world, the righteous man should win over one man by gift, another by strength, and yet another by gentle, truthful speech. It befits the brahmin to live by begging, the kshatriya to protect, the vaishya to earn wealth, and the shudra to serve them. Begging is forbidden to you, and farming does not suit you either: you are a kshatriya, a protector from harm, sustained by the strength of your arms. O mighty-armed one, raise up once more your paternal share, now sunk in misfortune — by conciliation, by gift, by sowing division, by punishment, and by policy."
