ताम् उवाच महादेवः कन्यां किल वृषध्वजः ॥
न मे वाग् अनृतं भद्रे प्राह सत्यं भविष्यति ॥
वधिष्यसि रणे भीष्मं पुरुषत्वं च लप्स्यसे ॥
स्मरिष्यसि च तत् सर्वं देहम् अन्यं गता सती ॥
द्रुपदस्य कुले जाता भविष्यसि महारथः ॥
शीघ्रास्त्रश् चित्रयोधी च भविष्यसि सुसंमतः ॥
यथोक्तम् एव कल्याणि सर्वम् एतद् भविष्यति ॥
भविष्यसि पुमान् पश्चात् कस्माच् चित् कालपर्ययात् ॥
एवम् उक्त्वा महातेजाः कपर्दी वृषभध्वजः ॥
पश्यताम् एव विप्राणां तत्रैवान्तरधीयत ॥

vadhiṣyasi raṇe bhīṣmaṃ puruṣatvaṃ ca lapsyase ||

drupadasya kule jātā bhaviṣyasi mahārathaḥ ||
śīghrāstraś citrayodhī ca bhaviṣyasi susaṃmataḥ ||
yathoktam eva kalyāṇi sarvam etad bhaviṣyati ||
bhaviṣyasi pumān paścāt kasmāc cit kālaparyayāt ||
evam uktvā mahātejāḥ kapardī vṛṣabhadhvajaḥ ||
paśyatām eva viprāṇāṃ tatraivāntaradhīyata ||
The great god, the bull-bannered one, said to that maiden: 'My word is never false, O gentle one; what has been said will become true. In battle you will slay Bhishma and attain the state of a man. Having passed into another body, you will remember all this. You will be born in the lineage of Drupada and become a great chariot-warrior; you will wield swift weapons, fight skillfully, and be held in high esteem. All this, O blessed one, will be exactly as it has been said. Later, after the passage of some time, you will become a man.' Having said this, Kapardin of great splendor, the bull-bannered one, vanished right there before the eyes of the brahmins.

Here Ambā's resolve reaches its limit. She rejects a life in which she sees neither a woman's lot nor a man's strength for vengeance, and asks not for consolation but for the power to destroy Bhishma. Shiva grants her not an instant victory but a path through a new birth and a change of body. The chapter thus binds together austerity, karma, and destiny: a powerful intention does not vanish with death but carries onward, taking the form of a future instrument. Ambā's entry into the fire becomes not flight but a terrible vow directed toward her next birth.
