संजय उवाच
राजञ् शतसहस्राणि तत्र तत्र तदा तदा ॥
निर्मर्यादं प्रयुद्धानि तत् ते वक्ष्यामि भारत ॥
न पुत्रः पितरं जज्ञे न पिता पुत्रम् औरसम् ॥
न भ्राता भ्रातरं तत्र स्वस्रीयं न च मातुलः ॥
मातुलं न च स्वस्रीयो न सखायं सखा तथा ॥
आविष्टा इव युध्यन्ते पाण्डवाः कुरुभिः सह ॥
saṃjaya uvāca
rājañ śatasahasrāṇi tatra tatra tadā tadā ||
nirmaryādaṃ prayuddhāni tat te vakṣyāmi bhārata ||
na putraḥ pitaraṃ jajñe na pitā putram aurasam ||
na bhrātā bhrātaraṃ tatra svasrīyaṃ na ca mātulaḥ ||
mātulaṃ na ca svasrīyo na sakhāyaṃ sakhā tathā ||
āviṣṭā iva yudhyante pāṇḍavāḥ kurubhiḥ saha ||
Sanjaya said: "O king, everywhere at that hour hundreds of thousands of warriors fought without any measure; I shall tell you of this, O Bharata. The son did not recognize the father, nor the father his own son; brother did not recognize brother, uncle did not recognize nephew, nor nephew uncle, nor friend friend. The Pandavas and the Kurus fought each other as if possessed."
