译文

Sanjaya said: 'When the night had passed and the sun had risen, both armies, O great king, came together for battle. Enraged and each wishing to conquer the other, the Pandavas and the Dhartarashtras, seeing one another in the fight, O king, and because of your ill counsel, drew up their battle arrays and fell upon one another in fury. Bhishma guarded the makara formation from every side, O king; likewise the Pandavas protected their own array. Your father Devavrata, the best of charioteers, went forth with the chariot host, surrounded by a great line of rathas. Charioteers, foot soldiers, elephants, and horsemen, each stationed in his own division, followed one after another. Seeing them arrayed and ready for battle, the glorious Pandavas formed themselves into the hawk array, that unconquerable king of formations, invincible in battle.'
