ततो युधिष्ठिरः प्राह समाहूय स्वसैनिकान् ॥
गच्छन्तु पदवीं शक्त्या भीमपार्षतयोर् युधि ॥
सौभद्रप्रमुखा वीरा रथा द्वादश दंशिताः ॥
प्रवृत्तिम् अधिगच्छन्तु न हि शुध्यति मे मनः ॥
त एवं समनुज्ञाताः शूरा विक्रान्तयोधिनः ॥
बाढम् इत्य् एवम् उक्त्वा तु सर्वे पुरुषमानिनः ॥
मध्यंदिनगते सूर्ये प्रययुः सर्व एव हि ॥
केकया द्रौपदेयाश् च धृष्टकेतुश् च वीर्यवान् ॥
अभिमन्युं पुरस्कृत्य महत्या सेनया वृताः ॥
ते कृत्वा समरे व्यूहं सूचीमुखम् अरिंदमाः ॥
बिभिदुर् धार्तराष्ट्राणां तद् रथानीकम् आहवे ॥
तान् प्रयातान् महेष्वासान् अभिमन्युपुरोगमान् ॥
भीमसेनभयाविष्टा धृष्टद्युम्नविमोहिता ॥
न संधारयितुं शक्ता तव सेना जनाधिप ॥
मदमूर्छान्वितात्मानं प्रमदेवाध्वनि स्थिता ॥
ते ऽभियाता महेष्वासाः सुवर्णविकृतध्वजाः ॥
परीप्सन्तो ऽभ्यधावन्त धृष्टद्युम्नवृकोदरौ ॥
तौ च दृष्ट्वा महेष्वासान् अभिमन्युपुरोगमान् ॥
बभूवतुर् मुदा युक्तौ निघ्नन्तौ तव वाहिनीम् ॥

madhyaṃdinagate sūrye prayayuḥ sarva eva hi ||
kekayā draupadeyāś ca dhṛṣṭaketuś ca vīryavān ||
abhimanyuṃ puraskṛtya mahatyā senayā vṛtāḥ ||
te kṛtvā samare vyūhaṃ sūcīmukham ariṃdamāḥ ||
bibhidur dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṃ tad rathānīkam āhave ||
tān prayātān maheṣvāsān abhimanyupurogamān ||
bhīmasenabhayāviṣṭā dhṛṣṭadyumnavimohitā ||
na saṃdhārayituṃ śaktā tava senā janādhipa ||
madamūrchānvitātmānaṃ pramadevādhvani sthitā ||
te 'bhiyātā maheṣvāsāḥ suvarṇavikṛtadhvajāḥ ||
parīpsanto 'bhyadhāvanta dhṛṣṭadyumnavṛkodarau ||
tau ca dṛṣṭvā maheṣvāsān abhimanyupurogamān ||
babhūvatur mudā yuktau nighnantau tava vāhinīm ||
Then Yudhishthira, having summoned his own soldiers, said: 'Let them go, as best they can, along the trail of Bhima and Parshata in the fight. Let the twelve armored chariots, with the heroes led by Saubhadra, find out what has happened to them; my mind is not at ease.' Thus given leave, the valiant, doughty warriors said 'so be it,' and all these proud fighters set out when the sun had reached midday. The Kekayas, the sons of Draupadi, and the mighty Dhrishtaketu, placing Abhimanyu at their head and surrounded by a great army, formed the 'needle-point' array in battle and broke through the Dhartarashtras' chariot division in the fight. Your army, o lord of men, seized with fear of Bhimasena and bewildered by Dhrishtadyumna, could not hold firm against these great archers advancing with Abhimanyu at their head; it was like a helpless woman stranded on the road, dazed and faint of spirit. Those great archers with banners of gold rushed forward, seeking to save Dhrishtadyumna and Vrikodara. And seeing these great archers led by Abhimanyu, the two of them, still striking down your army, were filled with joy.
