译文

Then King Yudhishthira and the two Pandavas, sons of Madri, mightily repelled in battle the onslaught of the horsemen, as the shore of the great ocean holds back the surge of water when the ocean swells at the full moon, filled by the rainy season, great king. After this those charioteers, O king, with arrows of jointed shafts began to sever the heads of the horsemen from their bodies. Struck down by the firm-bowed warriors, they fell, great king, like great elephants felled by elephants in the ravines of a mountain. But the horsemen too, ranging through all ten directions, with very sharp prasas and arrows of jointed shafts severed heads. Riders pressing in close, O bull of the Bharatas, cut off heads with their rishtis, as one plucks fruit from a great tree. Horses together with their riders were struck down everywhere, falling and being felled by the hundreds and thousands. These horses, being slaughtered and tormented by fear, fled, like deer that have met lions and seek only to save their lives. But the Pandavas, great king, having conquered their enemies in the great battle, blew their conches and struck up their bheris on the field."
