译文

"For you too aspire to fight, for you are a kshatriya born of noble line; why then will you destroy all these guiltless kings? You are the root of this enmity -- therefore meet Arjuna yourself. Here is your wise uncle, faithful to the duty of a kshatriya, the son of Gandhara [Shakuni], who played dice dishonestly -- let him go against Arjuna into battle. This master of dice, deceitful, gamester, cheat, rogue, master of deceit -- will he conquer the Pandavas in battle? It was boasted by you beyond measure, together with Karna, with boasting, not once, in vain, out of blindness, in the hearing of Dhritarashtra as he listened: 'I, and Karna, and my brother Duhshasana shall slay the sons of Pandu, the three of us together, in battle.' Thus, of you, who had boasted, it was heard in assembly after assembly; fulfill then that vow, be true to your word along with them. Here he is, your enemy, the Pandava, unconquerable, standing before you; look to the duty of a kshatriya: your death in battle is more praiseworthy than victory. Given, enjoyed, studied, the desired dominion has been attained; you have accomplished what was yours, you are free of debt -- fear not, fight the Pandava." Having spoken thus, in battle Drona turned to where the enemies were; having divided the army in two thereafter, the battle then began.
