bībhatso viprakarmāṇi viditāni manīṣiṇām ||
yājanādhyāpane dānaṃ tathā yajñapratigrahau ||
ṣaṣṭham adhyayanaṃ nāma teṣāṃ kasmin pratiṣṭhitaḥ ||
hato droṇo mayā yat tat kiṃ māṃ pārtha vigarhase ||
Then the son of the king of Panchala [Dhrishtadyumna] said to Partha -- as Hari [Narasimha] in fury spoke to the roaring Hiranyakashipu: "Bibhatsu, the duties of a brahmin are known to the wise: performing sacrifice for others, teaching, giving gifts, and likewise offering sacrifice and accepting gifts. The sixth is called the study of the Vedas -- in which of these was Drona established? Is it for slaying him that you reproach me, Partha?"

Dhrishtadyumna defends himself with an argument: Drona had long abandoned the six occupations of a brahmin and lived as a warrior -- and so must be judged as a warrior. It is telling how he enumerates the brahmin's dharma -- sacrifice, teaching, giving -- only to show how far the teacher had strayed from it. The verse teaches that a man is judged by the path he actually walks, not by the estate of his birth; yet behind this logic lies also self-justification -- for one who has chosen the warrior's road does not thereby lose the right to an honest fight.
