The theme of servitude and service continues here. Vinata, enslaved by deceit, and her son Garuda carry the triumphant Kadru and her serpent sons — an image of how the righteous are at times made to serve the unrighteous under the law of karma and a given word. Yet Garuda bears this burden without bitterness, fulfilling his "mother's word" and showing filial devotion and patience. It is significant that nearness to the sun robs the serpents of their senses: those born of poison and darkness cannot bear the highest light. What is revealed here is that a soul burdened with impurity grows faint as it approaches the source of light (the Lord), while the devotee (Garuda) carries that radiance freely. And when Kadru's sons grow faint, she turns to prayer — for in distress even the proud turn to the Supreme. Thus scripture shows that service rendered with patience for duty's sake does not degrade the one who bears it but exalts him, while pride is in the end forced to beg for help.
