"He said: 'Where is this lowest of the Vrishni race, Vasudeva, son of Vasudeva? I shall destroy in battle the pride of him who seeks a fight. Tell me the truth, O Anartas -- I shall go where he is. Having slain the slayer of Kamsa and Keshin, I shall return; if I do not slay him, I shall not return -- truly do I lay hand upon my weapon.' Thus the king of Saubha rushed about everywhere, repeating: 'Where is he? Where is he?' He desired battle with me and said: 'Today I shall send to the abode of Yama this evildoer, this base betrayer of trust, who slew Shishupala. He struck down my brother, the lord of the earth; I shall slay Janardana.' Speaking thus and challenging me, he rose into the sky on Saubha, which moves at will."

Shalva speaks the language of revenge and distorts the truth: Shishupala himself pushed insult to its limit, yet his friend turns his death into a pretext for fresh adharma. Thus unacknowledged guilt passes from one heart to another and becomes war.
