इन्द्र उवाच
उभाव् एतौ न सोमार्हौ नासत्याव् इति मे मतिः ॥
भिषजौ देवपुत्राणां कर्मणा नैवम् अर्हतः ॥
च्यवन उवाच
मावमंस्था महात्मानौ रूपद्रविणवत्तरौ ॥
यौ चक्रतुर् मां मघवन् वृन्दारकम् इवाजरम् ॥
ऋते त्वां विबुधांश् चान्यान् कथं वै नार्हतः सवम् ॥
अश्विनाव् अपि देवेन्द्र देवौ विद्धि पुरंदर ॥
इन्द्र उवाच
चिकित्सकौ कर्मकरौ कामरूपसमन्वितौ ॥
लोके चरन्तौ मर्त्यानां कथं सोमम् इहार्हतः ॥
लोमश उवाच
एतद् एव यदा वाक्यम् आम्रेडयति वासवः ॥
अनादृत्य ततः शक्रं ग्रहं जग्राह भार्गवः ॥
ग्रहीष्यन्तं तु तं सोमम् अश्विनोर् उत्तमं तदा ॥
समीक्ष्य बलभिद् देव इदं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
आभ्याम् अर्थाय सोमं त्वं ग्रहीष्यसि यदि स्वयम् ॥
वज्रं ते प्रहरिष्यामि घोररूपम् अनुत्तमम् ॥
एवम् उक्तः स्मयन्न् इन्द्रम् अभिवीक्ष्य स भार्गवः ॥
जग्राह विधिवत् सोमम् अश्विभ्याम् उत्तमं ग्रहम् ॥
ततो ऽस्मै प्राहरद् वज्रं घोररूपं शचीपतिः ॥
तस्य प्रहरतो बाहुं स्तम्भयाम् आस भार्गवः ॥
संस्तम्भयित्वा च्यवनो जुहुवे मन्त्रतो ऽनलम् ॥
कृत्यार्थी सुमहातेजा देवं हिंसितुम् उद्यतः ॥

cikitsakau karmakarau kāmarūpasamanvitau ||
loke carantau martyānāṃ kathaṃ somam ihārhataḥ ||
lomaśa uvāca
etad eva yadā vākyam āmreḍayati vāsavaḥ ||
anādṛtya tataḥ śakraṃ grahaṃ jagrāha bhārgavaḥ ||
grahīṣyantaṃ tu taṃ somam aśvinor uttamaṃ tadā ||
samīkṣya balabhid deva idaṃ vacanam abravīt ||
ābhyām arthāya somaṃ tvaṃ grahīṣyasi yadi svayam ||
vajraṃ te prahariṣyāmi ghorarūpam anuttamam ||
evam uktaḥ smayann indram abhivīkṣya sa bhārgavaḥ ||
jagrāha vidhivat somam aśvibhyām uttamaṃ graham ||
tato 'smai prāharad vajraṃ ghorarūpaṃ śacīpatiḥ ||
tasya praharato bāhuṃ stambhayām āsa bhārgavaḥ ||
saṃstambhayitvā cyavano juhuve mantrato 'nalam ||
kṛtyārthī sumahātejā devaṃ hiṃsitum udyataḥ ||
Indra said: "In my opinion, neither of these two Nasatyas is worthy of the soma. They are physicians of the sons of the gods; by their occupation they do not deserve it." Chyavana said: "Do not despise these great souls, rich in beauty and excellence, O Maghavan. They have made me, an old man, as if immortal. How, then, apart from you and the other gods, could they be unworthy of the sacrificial libation? Know, O Devendra, O Purandara: the Ashvins too are gods." Indra said: "They are healers, hired workers who assume any form and wander in the world among mortals. How could they be worthy of the soma here?" Lomasha said: "While Vasava was repeating these words, Bhargava, disregarding Shakra, took up the cup. Seeing that he was about to take the finest soma for the Ashvins, the god, the crusher of strength, said: 'If you yourself take the soma for the sake of these two, I shall strike you with a terrible, matchless thunderbolt.' Though thus addressed, Bhargava, smiling and looking at Indra, took up according to rule the finest cup of soma for the Ashvins. Then Shachipati struck at him with the terrible thunderbolt, but Bhargava halted Indra's arm in the very act of the blow. Having stopped it, Chyavana, with a mantra, poured an oblation into the fire: mighty in splendor, he sought to raise up a kritya, ready to strike down the god."
