दिष्ट्या धनंजयास्त्राणि त्वया प्राप्तानि भारत ॥
दिष्ट्या चाराधितो राजा देवानाम् ईश्वरः प्रभुः ॥
दिष्ट्या च भगवान् स्थाणुर् देव्या सह परंतप ॥
साक्षाद् दृष्टः सुयुद्धेन तोषितश् च त्वयानघ ॥
दिष्ट्या च लोकपालैस् त्वं समेतो भरतर्षभ ॥
दिष्ट्या वर्धामहे सर्वे दिष्ट्यासि पुनरागतः ॥
अद्य कृत्स्नाम् इमां देवीं विजितां पुरमालिनीम् ॥
मन्ये च धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्रान् अपि वशीकृतान् ॥
तानि त्व् इच्छामि ते द्रष्टुं दिव्यान्य् अस्त्राणि भारत ॥
यैस् तथा वीर्यवन्तस् ते निवातकवचा हता ॥
अर्जुन उवाच
श्वः प्रभाते भवान् द्रष्टा दिव्यान्य् अस्त्राणि सर्वशः ॥
निवातकवचा घोरा यैर् मया विनिपातिताः ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
एवम् आगमनं तत्र कथयित्वा धनंजयः ॥
भ्रातृभिः सहितः सर्वै रजनीं ताम् उवास ह ॥

śvaḥ prabhāte bhavān draṣṭā divyāny astrāṇi sarvaśaḥ ||
nivātakavacā ghorā yair mayā vinipātitāḥ ||

evam āgamanaṃ tatra kathayitvā dhanaṃjayaḥ ||
bhrātṛbhiḥ sahitaḥ sarvai rajanīṃ tām uvāsa ha ||

Translation

Yudhishthira said: 'It is good fortune that you have obtained your weapons, Dhananjaya; good fortune that you have satisfied the king of the gods, the lord and master. It is good fortune that with your own eyes you beheld the blessed Sthanu together with the goddess, and in fair combat satisfied him, O sinless one. It is good fortune that you met the guardians of the worlds; good fortune that all of us prosper; good fortune that you have returned. Today, son of Kunti, I already consider this whole earth, adorned with its cities, conquered, and the sons of Dhritarashtra already subdued. But I wish to see your divine weapons, Bharata, by which such mighty Nivatakavachas were slain.' Arjuna said: 'Tomorrow at dawn you shall see all the divine weapons by which I struck down the terrible Nivatakavachas.' Vaishampayana said: 'Having thus told of his arrival, Dhananjaya spent that night together with all his brothers.'

Commentary

Yudhishthira sees in Arjuna's return a sign of future victory, yet he asks not for glory but for confirmation of the power granted by the gods. His joy remains bound to the restoration of justice.
