सूर्य उवाच
यदि तात ददास्य् एते वज्रिणे कुण्डले शुभे ॥
त्वम् अप्य् एनम् अथो ब्रूया विजयार्थं महाबल ॥
नियमेन प्रदद्यास् त्वं कुण्डले वै शतक्रतोः ॥
अवध्यो ह्य् असि भूतानां कुण्डलाभ्यां समन्वितः ॥
अर्जुनेन विनाशं हि तव दानवसूदनः ॥
प्रार्थयानो रणे वत्स कुण्डले ते जिहीर्षति ॥
स त्वम् अप्य् एनम् आराध्य सूनृताभिः पुनः पुनः ॥
अभ्यर्थयेथा देवेशम् अमोघार्थं पुरंदरम् ॥
अमोघां देहि मे शक्तिम् अमित्रविनिबर्हिणीम् ॥
दास्यामि ते सहस्राक्ष कुण्डले वर्म चोत्तमम् ॥
इत्य् एवं नियमेन त्वं दद्याः शक्राय कुण्डले ॥
तया त्वं कर्ण संग्रामे हनिष्यसि रणे रिपून् ॥
नाहत्वा हि महाबाहो शत्रून् एति करं पुनः ॥
सा शक्तिर् देवराजस्य शतशो ऽथ सहस्रशः ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
एवम् उक्त्वा सहस्रांशुः सहसान्तरधीयत ॥
ततः सूर्याय जप्यान्ते कर्णः स्वप्नं न्यवेदयत् ॥
यथादृष्टं यथातत्त्वं यथोक्तम् उभयोर् निशि ॥
तत् सर्वम् आनुपूर्व्येण शशंसास्मै वृषस् तदा ॥
तच् छ्रुत्वा भगवान् देवो भानुः स्वर्भानुसूदनः ॥
उवाच तं तथेत्य् एव कर्णं सूर्यः स्मयन्न् इव ॥
ततस् तत्त्वम् इति ज्ञात्वा राधेयः परवीरहा ॥
शक्तिम् एवाभिकाङ्क्षन् वै वासवं प्रत्यपालयत् ॥

abhyarthayethā deveśam amoghārthaṃ puraṃdaram ||
amoghāṃ dehi me śaktim amitravinibarhiṇīm ||
dāsyāmi te sahasrākṣa kuṇḍale varma cottamam ||
ity evaṃ niyamena tvaṃ dadyāḥ śakrāya kuṇḍale ||
tayā tvaṃ karṇa saṃgrāme haniṣyasi raṇe ripūn ||
nāhatvā hi mahābāho śatrūn eti karaṃ punaḥ ||
sā śaktir devarājasya śataśo 'tha sahasraśaḥ ||
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
evam uktvā sahasrāṃśuḥ sahasāntaradhīyata ||
tataḥ sūryāya japyānte karṇaḥ svapnaṃ nyavedayat ||
yathādṛṣṭaṃ yathātattvaṃ yathoktam ubhayor niśi ||
tat sarvam ānupūrvyeṇa śaśaṃsāsmai vṛṣas tadā ||
tac chrutvā bhagavān devo bhānuḥ svarbhānusūdanaḥ ||
uvāca taṃ tathety eva karṇaṃ sūryaḥ smayann iva ||
tatas tattvam iti jñātvā rādheyaḥ paravīrahā ||
śaktim evābhikāṅkṣan vai vāsavaṃ pratyapālayat ||
Surya said: "If you give these auspicious earrings to Vajrin, then you yourself should ask him, for the sake of victory, mighty one. You should give the earrings to Shatakratu only on condition: for as long as you have them, you are unslayable by beings. Indra, desiring your destruction at Arjuna's hands in battle, wishes to take the earrings from you, child. So you, having propitiated him again and again with kind and truthful words, should ask the lord of gods, Purandara, for the unfailing shakti: 'Give me the shakti that never misses its mark, the destroyer of enemies; I will give you, thousand-eyed one, my earrings and my finest armor.' With that shakti you, Karna, will slay your enemies in battle, for it does not return to the hand of the king of gods without having slain a foe, even after hundreds and thousands of times." Vaishampayana said: Having spoken thus, the thousand-rayed one vanished at once. Then, after his japa, Karna related to Surya his dream -- all that both had seen and said to each other in the night -- recounting it to him in due order. Having heard this, the blessed god Bhanu, slayer of Svarbhanu, said to Karna, smiling, as it were: "So be it." Then Radheya, slayer of enemy heroes, having learned the truth, desiring only the shakti, waited for Vasava.
